These parathas are served with sweet lassi, mint chutney, tamarind chutney, mixed pickle, potato-paneer curry, pumpkin, spicy green chili, and carrot-radish salad.
The price is so reasonable that you can get parathas for two people for Rs. 150. There are shops older than 1870 in this lane and this business of making parathas is being carried on by the family. In the beginning, there used to be 20 to 25 shops here, out of which only 3 are left now.
Famous Indian actor Akshay Kumar’s ancestral house is also in this lane and this is the same lane where Akshay Kumar used to make parathas before entering Bollywood. Not only this, but other big celebrities of Bollywood also often come here to taste parathas.
A Walk Through History of Chandni Chowk
The city of Delhi is situated on the banks of the River Yamuna. During the reign of Mughal emperor Shahjahan, the Yamuna Canal (now closed) used to pass through Chandni Chowk, which was right in the middle of the square.
At night, the shadow of the moon was visible in this canal, so this place was named Chandni Chowk. Some people believe that in the beginning, the silver trade used to take place here in large quantities, and this trade used to take place all around the square, so this place was named Chandni Chowk.
Shahjahan’s daughter Jahanara was very fond of shopping and she told this desire of hers to her father. To commemorate this, Shahjahan built the market of Chandni Chowk in Delhi and called traders from India and its surrounding areas to do business here.
